GOTR-CM 5K CELEBRATION

Girls on the Run of Central Michigan & Midland Gladwin Merger Press Release

Girls on the Run of Central Michigan and Shelterhouse of Midland/Gladwin are pleased to announce that they are combining their two Girls on the Run councils into a new entity which will retain the Girls on the Run of Central Michigan name. The council will serve a five county area that includes Midland, Gladwin, Clare, Gratiot, and Isabella counties.

We are excited to be taking this proactive step to further develop our organization so that we can fulfill our mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using our experienced based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Both councils believe this restructuring will increase program impact and enhance organizational sustainability thereby benefiting the communities they serve in Michigan.

With the support of Shelterhouse of Midland/Gladwin, GOTR Midland/Gladwin was established in 2007 and has operated as a program within the organization serving girls in 3rd – 5th grade. We are so thankful and appreciative of the support that Shelterhouse of Midland/Gladwin has provided these last 10 years as well as their guidance and support during this transition.

Established in 2003, GOTR Central Michigan has been an independent council serving Isabella, Gratiot, and Clare. We are excited that Central Michigan will now include the additional counties of Midland and Gladwin and are pleased that Samantha Jones will lead this newly combined council as Executive Director. Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

Girls on the Run of Central Michigan is an Independent Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of 200 locations across the United States and Canada. Girls on the Run of Central Michigan serves schools in Isabella, Gratiot and Clare counties, and could not serve so many girls without the help of  these local sponsors and donors!!!
